Holy Crap

Holy crap.

As soon as the guitar came in, I realized what this song truly reminded me of. Something post-apocalyptic, like the Terminator or something. It has a very 80s feeling to it at the beginning around 2:04, and I love it. It seems that your music is upon the mantle of my favorites, and this song is definitely going on the top ten list.

I can see this is quite an achievement you've got here. I'm praying that you will make more songs like this, perhaps something completely 80s oriented. You've managed to mix a dramatic score, and I have to say that I'm in love with it!

Hey Bosa, thanks for the review! It sounds like you heard what I was going for. The game is set quite far in the future, and I was going for a sound that was more than just an orchestra. I think the addtion of rock elements with the ballad/ambient-style breaks fits really well in an orchestral setting and gives the whole score an eerie sound.

I'll definitely be experimenting with this sound more in the future. Glad you enjoyed it!

Very Good

Very simple at what it does, and it is definitely a soothing track. There's a heraldic feeling to it - you might say. A person could listen to this over and over again if it was playing during a game or movie.

MaestroRage responds:

and that sir, is precisely what it was made for.

I'm glad you caught onto it's use. Thank you for the review. I'll hit you up with one myself soon!

Now we are TALKIN!

Aw yeah! Sorohan, you are truly the king of jazz. As I'm a fan of jazz myself, I can truly appreciate the effort and talent you put behind your music. You're way out of my league in music, but I'll always be the one to support you the rest of the way!

This piece reminds me of Roger Rabbit, and that's a good thing.

-Bosa

sorohanro responds:

:)) well, if my music would be sexier it would remind you of Jessica Rabbit :))

Thanx for review man, feel free to download and use my free trumpet samples ;)

Not bad..

I can picture myself hearing this music at an arcade or while playing Unreal Tournament. It's actually pretty, good, yet could use some different beats and segments - as it gets sort of repetitive in some parts. Also, the ending was sort of abrupt, but not enough to really bother me. I think that you will turn out to be quite a musician here on Newgrounds.

I liked it.

An 8 from you is like a 1000 from anyone!! Tanx a lot BOSA!!!

I Like it

I think you've got a beautiful piece of work here. It's beyond any piano solo I'm capable of, that's for sure. This song is very relaxing and particularly serene, as it seems to give a feeling of peace or comfort. However, I feel like it should be in the 'Classical' category rather than 'Ambient'. Other than that, I really like it, and I hope you will submit more tracks like this - it seems to be your natural talent within music. You have my top vote.

yopdoggy responds:

Thank you very much! i put it in the ambient category because i also use this for coffee shops and such to create an atmosphere. but the classical category would be a good one. in fact i dont think i even seen that category. ill make my next piece in that category! thanx for the feedback!

Sweet

I really like this kind of music, this is what I listen to when I'm working. It sounds more like smooth jazz than funk, though I can definitely sit back and relax to either genre. You've really produced quite a jam here; did you have your own group musicians perform for this track? It is quite impressive.

-Bosa

shaunchasin responds:

Yeah the whole idea of classifying it into one genre is always hard. What puts it into funk for me is the 16th note subdivision the whole time. Those rhythmic pushes, anticipations and stops.
I would love to have played it with a group of people but didn't get the chance. The recording you're hearing is all samples that I played in with an axiom 61 midi controller with the exception of the guitar which is me.

Thanks for the comment :)

Astounding and Pleasant

Very nice, and the composition reminds me of an arrangement of the Christmas Carol, Noel, in some segments.

I'm very fond of the instrumentation as well, as I often use a Celtic style in my own music. The ensemble of strings with the tin penny and recorder is such a pleasant mixture of instruments to use, and I would like to hear more of your live performances if possible.

Some things are to note, though. During the higher key change, at around 02:17, I would of liked to of heard a short solo of a lower irish whistle transitioning into the key change, instead of you having to hit a lower note. Also, the segment was just a bit too high for me. Of course, my opinion is just personal taste, and I'm not sure if you would agree with my suggestion or not, but there's always room for improvement in everything we create. The pitch is really the only thing that bugged me, and everything else seems flawless in my opinion.

I really liked this performance, as it conveys a mood of returning home to the country, a feeling we all can relate to. I would definitely like to collaborate a piece of music with you some time. Of course if you're up for it, I'm sure we would produce something interesting for the masses to hear.

I will continue to watch your progress with enjoyment, and again I hope to hear more from you.

At the time I only had access to a penny whistle really. I didn't purchase a low irish whistle till this year.

Good

Even though this isn't necessarily what I listen to every day, I'm not going to bash you simply because it's not my style of music - that would be ignorant.

Actually, this reminds me a tad bit of a level on Donkey Kong Country 2, as you've used some of the styles of implementation that the composer for Donkey Kong used. It's rather interesting to listen to, and at the moment, I enjoy it very much. Also, the diverse use of electronic sounds makes it very original and polished, that's always good to me.

The only problem I have with it is the volume increase at around 3:10 or so. But, it's not that big of a deal; I was just pointing it out. Honestly, you've produced a fine piece of music and you should be proud of it.

Gorgorothx responds:

Thank you Bosa for the kind words. DKC2 eh? I'll have to look into that and hear it for myself. Cheers for this review!

Beautiful

I was actually surprised when I had heard this from you. You've managed to show me that everybody can open their hearts to Christmas and contribute somewhat - even but if a little. I was actually expecting a sudden burst in the middle of the song to a metal, ear pounding rhythm and imagining a Christmas tree being burned down or something. But as I said, you've shown a very good side in this piece and it's very lovely. Your piano work and mere compositions are beautiful.

I know you probably don't like to hear people when they're soft, but this song has truly opened my heart and caused me to look forward to this coming Christmas and it's caused me to appreciate all that has come and shall come to pass. It's caused me to think about the love of my life and how I am going to spend the Christmas with her. Basically, it just causes me to enjoy the life that has been given to me, you're an amazing composer.

I've listened to some of your work and your music brings back memories that I never thought I had. I love your work, and I do hope you will continue to make music as you are now.

SolusLunes responds:

My intent with this song was to bring a tear to someone's eye- and the metal mashing and that wouldn't really fit that image...

This song was, in fact, inspired by the same feeling that this song instilled in you.

Funny how that happens, eh? :D

Enjoyable!

Once again you've reminded me of a game I used to play (you're really good at this) called the Illusion of Gaia; very nostalgic.

I can tell this wasn't meant to loop, but it seems to flow so well with the silence at the end. You've managed to pull another one under my nose (not a bugger, mind you. I'm a childish loser.)

I can imagine hearing this in a movie with a scene overlooking the rainforest or something similar. Perhaps even a Celtic scene of Ireland or Scotland (because it sounds sorta medieval at the end.) It's just so soothing to listen to.

I love the instruments used in this one, as I can tell you carefully chose them as well. You're just full of musical goodness that I can't help but love your work! I admire you in some ways as you remind me of myself when I was making music a couple of years ago here on Newgrounds.

I do hope you continue making music,
Bosa

SolusLunes responds:

You know, it's really nice to get a review from you, as I've been ninja-listening to every song you've got- I actually never reviewed any of them, and I kind of think that's just kind of rude.

The instrument selection in this song was one of the parts I spent a lot of time on, I'd get to a part where I had finished writing an entire part for an instrument and then deciding "Wow, this sucks balls" and then re-write it (like for the oboe, that went through about four rewrites.)

I will of course keep up making music! :D

Hit me up anytime you want!
